California Dreamin’

Over the years, I’ve had many high school seniors reach out to me from all over the country. They wanted to come to California to get photos that would stand out from their fellow classmate’ senior portraits. Here are a few of my favorite “Destination Southern California” sessions:

Robyn from Idaho dreamed of a beach shoot. I picked the beautiful Laguna Beach (known as the American Rivera) for our location, on the beach and downtown.High School Girl in White DressGirl relaxing at the beachTeenager in pink Sara from Kansas also wanted the Pacific Coast for her backdrop. South Laguna has a lovely secluded beach and Sara was thrilled with the location I picked.Teen girl at the beachTeen walking on the beachBeautiful smileSome seniors do not pick the beach for their portraits. Madison from Mississippi wanted a more Bohemian/Urban vibe for her photos.  What immediately came to my mind was the LAB “anti-mall” in Costa Mesa; It has some great backdrops that were perfect for Madison. Boho TeenBoho Teen GirlUrban Teen Girl Another Madison from a different state (North Carolina) has a passion for cupcakes and wanted to have them represented in her photos. After some scouting around, I thought that Casey’s Cupcakes at the Irvine Spectrum had the right recipe for success.  The store is visually beautiful with chandeliers and a girly pink palette – a perfect location for Madison’s portraits!  CupcakescupcakesCute Teen

One of the mothers wrote this review talking about their experience: “Kathryn is incredible! We had her take beach photos of our daughter for her senior year when we were visiting from Kansas. Her experience definitely shows – she knew exactly where and how to photograph our daughter to get the absolute best images…I am so thankful to have found her! Now we have gorgeous photos! Additionally, I want to mention Kathryn’s expert customer service and timeliness. She is a consummate professional. I highly recommend her!”

If you plan to visit Southern California, please let me plan the perfect photo session for you while you are here; you won’t regret it.

Mia Class of 2017 – Prom Portraits

Knowing how crazy it is the actual day of Prom, I did a separate session with Mia two weeks prior to Prom. I selected the venue because of Mia’s gorgeous dress,  Malaga Cove Plaza in Palos Verdes Estate. It was built in the 1920’s and I knew the architecture would enhanced the beauty of her dress. 006 ADSC_7820 mutedWe wanted a very romantic look so I had Mia’s hair curly. 003ADSC_7675 8x12 cropped004 ADSC_767002ADSC_7719 cropped005ADSC_7797001DSC_7463 copyThe above is one of my favorite images. I told Mia she looks like an angel and she immediately cracked up.

Bailey Class of 2017 – High School Senior Photography

Second time photographing Bailey. First time was many years ago for a family session. It was nice to see her and catch up with Bailey and her Mother.
005We photographed at the Lab/Camp in Costa Mesa. Which is such a photographers heaven with great backdrops and the light is perfection. 006The pretty white dress Bailey is wearing is for the dress she will wear during graduation. 007113013 copyI have photographed many high school seniors and families at the Lab/Camp. I always have at least one image with a background I never used before like this floral backdrop that is wall paper across from a hair salon.

Mia Class of 2017 High School Senior Session with Guitar

In Mia’s second shoot, we focus on her guitar. She has been taking guitar lessons at school during her senior year. Practices daily and has gotten so good.
DSC_7463 copyDuring the shoot, we had three locations for a 90 minutes session. I had this planned out before hand so it could be really quick. DSC_7347DSC_7421DSC_7428I found this building that was so colorful and perfect for the guitar images. DSC_7371DSC_7383 croppedDSC_7435DSC_7442After taking guitar images, I switched  Mia over to a dress that she wore for homecoming party during her junior year. I love this dress. Pretty in Pink!!DSC_7290DSC_7331DSC_7259Next up: Prom photos! We got the dress, too! Coming in May stay tune…..

Blair – Class of 2017 High School Senior Portraits

During Blair’s consultation, I discovered that Blair would like to incorporate bright colors for her session. The Lab/Camp aka as the Anti-Mall in Costa Mesa jumped to my mind. A perfect fit for Blair’s vision of bright color. This purple wall is so flattering to her skin tones.
