When I started photographing children ten years ago, I knew just how important their expressions were – be it laughter, a cute smile or just their own natural look.
The joy I experience when parents see the images I captured of their children is always so rewarding. Working with the children year after year, I have the privilege to watch them grow up through my camera lens. It is really gratifying to go to their homes and see all the photos that I took throughout the years and know that I was a part of their lasting memories.
Here are some of my favorite images from my first ten years:
I got Chloe, Ellie and Dean to laugh by making them say something silly about their dad…it just cracked them up!
Photographing two sets of twins that are all four years old could be challenging, but I managed to get some great images – this is one my favorites.
Three brothers who are just so cute; Adam, Travis and Max.
I have been photographing Lauren since 2011, the year I took this photo. She lives out of state but her grandmother resides in Laguna Beach. Her grandmother loves this image and ordered it as a canvas wall portrait. The colors of the sky are beautiful in this timeless image.
Photographing Porter in front of this large door shows just how small he was at that moment in his life.
Jack is 10 years older than Erin. There is a big height difference that I had to keep in mind when posing them. This image from 2014 is one of my favorite images of the two.
I was photographing a kids’ party when I happened to look down at the rent-a-clown’s feet. Noticing the juxtaposition of the little girl’s feet next to the clown’s big shoes, I knew I had a great photo the parents would love! Later, I found out that the beautiful ankle bracelet the little girl is wearing was designed by her mother.
From the same party, I love the image of this young girl with her mesmerizing blue eyes.
The first time I photographed Chloe was in 2009. It was a very cold day, but she was such a good sport throughout the shoot. I have been delighted to photograph her many times since.
Luke looking up at me, sitting amongst the fall leaves…pure perfection.
Looking forward to the next 10 years photographing many more children…….
I started my photography business in 2007 and along the way I have met many incredible people that have let me tell their stories by capturing those brief moments from babies to adulthood. I feel so honored to be a part of so many people’s photographic memories. To have clients turn in to friends and to be privileged to record special moments for them has been a remarkable time for me.
For this month, I am going to share my favorite images throughout my ten-year journey as a photographer – first up are precious baby images dating all the way back to the beginning in 2007.
When I am doing a photo shoot with a baby, I really feel like I am stepping into a very intimate moment between the parents and their baby. Seeing that bond there is just amazing and it is great to capture that in unforgettable images so they will always remember the special moment and love they had for their baby.
I photographed cousins – Lily and Cash. They were born to two sisters within one week of each other. Lily’s blue eyes just popped and Cash had these rolls of baby fat that were so perfect!
Annalise was 10 days old (at the time, the youngest baby that I had ever photographed). I had this vision of a stork bringing her home and incorporated the Special Delivery sign.
I photographed a couple that was expecting their first baby for their maternity; they knew it was going to be a boy. We did their photoshoot at their home, so I got to see Caden’s nursery with a baseball theme to it. Caden’s dad conveyed to me how much he loved baseball and could not to wait to teach his son to play. That inspired this image with Caden and his dad’s baseball and mitt – a picture they ended up using on Caden’s birth announcement.
Pink was the color inspiration for Charlotte’s session. When Charlotte suddenly clasped her hands together and looked up at me I knew the image was going to be flawless. The parents loved it.
I had been waiting for a warm day to photograph a baby outside. Found this huge banana leaf to place baby Beck in. I remember having to make sure the leaf was warm before setting Beck down on it.
I had the pleasure of photographing Baby Cianna four times during her first year. One of the best things about being a portrait artist is that I get to watch these kids grow up. It’s like seeing a caterpillar turn in to a beautiful butterfly. I’m always in awe at the many changes.
Baby Ben was six months old and not yet able to sit up without falling over, so I propped him using his parents’ feet showing how small he was at that age.
I went to Imaging USA Trade Show and fell in love with a blanket of roses. I bought it and have used this lovely prop during many photoshoots for babies. This image was one of the first wall portraits that my clients ordered. Seeing a wall portrait in print that I created for the first time was really rewarding to me. I have used this image of baby Stephanie many times myself at shows and for advertising.
Baby Wyatt’s blues eyes are looking at his mother. It was such a tender moment that really touched my heart.
Stay tuned for my blog on favorite childhood portraits…..
One Saturday afternoon, I went with my lovely Step-daughter, Hayley to pick out her prom dress. We went to so many places and just as we were about to give up, we went in to Lili’s of Beverly Hills. The moment Hayley slipped into this gown, we knew it was the one that looked great on her & she felt special in it.
Hayley and JP have known each other since they were three months old and met in a Mommy and Me class. Although they’re not dating, they are good friends. We did your typical backyard photos but at a gorgeous home in Pacific Palisades that looked more like a park. Last photo is father and daughter together!!!
After votes from clients, friends and family they decided on the Best Photos of 2014 that I took. The number one image with the most votes was this gorgeous portrait of Sophia sitting in a window at the Mission in San Juan Capistrano. It had 29 votes because of those votes she is receiving a 16×20 wall portrait to cherish forever.
Third place was one of my favorites from the year, Baby Christopher’s feet. The comments on this image: So unique – makes you study it! and Very artistic. The last image with a lot of votes was Baby Lexi in a crate. Her image had the most comments of any of the photos:
I love this little girl sitting in the box. The colors are bright but blend together really well. I like how one of the flowers on her headband matches the color of the box. Her pose is so casual natural for a toddler. She holding onto the box, but not gripping it for dear life. She looks like she’s playing. I like having the autumn too because I think everyone has that picture of playing in a pile of leaves. And toothless smiles are just too cute!Ok – I had to vote for this one because the second I saw it I felt happy! The little darling looks as though she is having a great time and the picture is a great mix of nature, textures, light, cuteness and really could not be more perfect! I hope I don’t mess you up because I’m going to like 2 more – but this is my favorite GREAT WORK!!!
OMG!!!! That is the most precious picture ever!!!! You are AWESOME! What a gift you have with children.
